The Farm
RATINGS AND CERTIFICATIONS
In February 2021, Blue Ocean Mariculture became the first Aquaculture Stewardship Council certified finfish farm in the United States (see full press release here).
Blue Ocean Mariculture employs various responsible farming practices to reduce our impact on ocean water quality, benthic health, and wildlife.
Net pens are located in areas of high water exchange, and fish stocking densities are restricted to preserve water quality and benthic health. Feed events are visually observed to reduce the risk of waste and benthic buildup.
Anchoring systems are designed to minimize the benthic footprint of the farm and net-pen moorings are engineered to eliminate the risk of wildlife entanglement. Fully submersible net-pens are employed to minimize the visual impact of the farm.

Blue Ocean Mariculture is the first Aquaculture Stewardship Council certified finfish farm in the United States and Blue Ocean’s farming practices have been reviewed and rated Yellow/Good Alternative by the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch Program.
